INCHCAPE Shipping Services (ISS) has completed a complex heavy lift project at the Kenyan port of Mombasa, which is being upgraded and expanded.
ISS was appointed as port and discharging agents for the Cosco-owned vessel Dade, which arrived at the African port in September with seven rubber tyre gantry (RTG) cranes on board.
The cranes, commissioned by the Kenya Ports Authority, will enable the port to develop its cargo processing and logistics activities at its container terminal.
Due to the port's heavylift and daylight operating restrictions, the unloading of the cranes took three days to complete. Cosco will deliver another five RTGs in early November.
Said ISS Kenya manager Kevin Chaney: "Inchcape is playing an ever-increasing role in the port infrastructure developments on the east coast of Africa."
